Sixty-five Plus in the United States

U.S. government statistical brief forecasts major growth in elderly population.

According to the Census Bureau's "middle series" projections, the elderly population will more than double between now and the year 2050, to 80 million. By that year, as many as 1 in 5 Americans could be elderly. Most of this growth should occur between 2010 and 2030, when the "baby boom" generation enters their elderly years. Read more details.

Federal Safety Bill Proposed

Federal Bill Proposed: Nurse and Patient Safety & Protection Act of 2007, HR 378

Introduced into the House of Representatives by Rep. John Conyers (D-MI), this bill proposes establishing a federal safe patient handling standard that requires the elimination of manual lifting of patients. This bill recognizes injuries among nursing staff have dramatically declined in facilities that have implemented patient handling equipment. Financial assistance through a grant program has been recommended to cover some or all of the costs of purchasing safe patient handling equipment for health care facilities. To review the bill, go to http://thomas.loc.gov and click “Search Bill Text," and enter: HR378.

We invite you to learn more about Medcare’s Ceiling Lifts:

  • Request an in-person demonstration by a Medcare installation expert by calling 800-695-4479

Preventing back injuries from manually transferring patients is a top priority for healthcare facilities today. Ceiling lifts are a popular solution and can be installed in many types of rooms: patient rooms, operating rooms, emergency rooms, morgues, etc.

Although Ceiling Lifts can be retrofitted in to an existing room, they are less expensive to install when designed into new construction or during remodeling.

*Bariatric Ceiling Lift holds up to an 800 lb. patient/resident
